Childbirth Education Class Spotlight: The Stages of Labor
Did you know? Four of the classes in our childbirth education series are virtual and are accessible to parents all around the country! These virtual childbirth education classes include The Stages of Labor, Induction of Labor, C-sections, and Advocacy and Communication.
Our childbirth education classes based out of Kansas City cover a wide range of topics — from the typical things you’d expect to learn at a hospital birth class, to all the doula tips and tricks to have a smoother birth experience (no matter what it looks like!).
This blog post is going to dive into our class on The Stages of Labor, including why we offer it and what you can expect to learn if you sign up.
The Stages of Labor — Childbirth Education Class
Learning the stages of labor is the backbone of preparing for birth. It’s the first one in our childbirth education series as the process of labor is vital to understand before building on other ways to prepare for birth. Our stages of labor class walks you through early labor, active labor, transition, pushing, and placental delivery; teaching you what to expect during each phase, and different things you can ask for or prepare for when experiencing them.
After taking this class, you will be much more prepared to learn about other parts of labor and delivery. Taking this class before taking Common Interventions, Medical Coping Measures, Non-medical Coping Measures, and Induction is recommended!
While the process of labor can look different for everyone, there is a pretty universal biological process that occurs in spontaneous labor, and there are lots of ways to learn where you are in labor based on recognizing the signs of labor progression through the three stages of labor learned in this class. This class can be helpful to knowing when it is “real” labor (versus false labor that can often occur at the end of pregnancy), what to do during early labor, when to transition to the hospital, or help you determine when you’d like to request pain management if you are planning to utilize it. Knowing what is “normal” to experience can also ease your anxiety during the labor process, by reminding yourself that the feelings you are feeling are the biological process, and not something scary or hurtful to you or your baby. It can also help you advocate for yourself when what you are feeling is something that isn’t normal to the typical labor progress.
Education is power in birth. Our childbirth education classes are designed to be small and inclusive to all birth experiences, so you feel comfortable asking questions. Sign up now — we can’t wait to see you in class!
