Kansas City Doula Team

MEET YOUR DOULA TEAM

Hey, I’m Heidi!

Wife, Mother, Birth Doula and Owner of Bloc Births LLC.

I became a doula in Fall of 2020 and quickly developed a passion for supporting all different types of birth experiences, specifically hospital births, as it is a birth space that vitally needs outside support. Birthing in a hospital hosts a complication of new faces and environments on the day of delivery, and then add in all the medical interventions you may need or want and it is so much to navigate! My goal is for my clients to step down from the overwhelm of information and options, help them follow their gut, find trusted medical care, and be able to lean into the joy of the birth experience with their family!

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME

I was raised in the Northeast. The Appalachian Mountains will always settle my soul and pine trees smell like home, but my husband’s job brought us to Kansas City almost a decade ago and I’ve come to love the community and culture here!

I was born on the coldest day ever in my hometown. As a child, I was riveted by my mom's story of trying to make it to the hospital in the frigid weather… maybe that should have been a hint to my future career choice.

Hey, I’m Emma!

Wife, Mother, Angel Baby Mom, Doula, & Placenta Encapsulator.

My passion for birth started when I was only three years old and told my mom I wanted to be an obstetrician. This led me to studying pre-medical in college, but, life happened, and I ended up getting my degree in psychology! After being a single mom to my first child and having to navigate the birth world without partner support (but amazing friend support!), I knew I wanted to help other families navigate one of the most important moments of their lives and go back to doing what I wanted to do since I was three — see babies be born!

I am constantly evolving how I physically and emotionally support families during their prenatal, birth, and postpartum journeys. I love to learn new information to support my clients as best as I can possibly provide!

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in a small town outside of Lincoln, Nebraska. Go Huskers! One of my best friends talked me into moving to Kansas City seven years ago and the rest is history!

My kids and I are enrolled members in the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians in Red Lake, Minnesota. My legal middle name is actually Touch the Clouds! My mom was born on the reservation, and I cannot wait to learn enough to give back to my community and culture there, as maternal and infant mortality rates among indigenous people are astronomical.

Hey, I’m Morgan!

Wife, Mom, Dog Mom, Doula, & Certified Birth Nerd.

Morgan will be on maternity leave for all July - December 2024 Due Dates.

In 2021, I quit my job as an elementary school teacher around the same time I got pregnant with my daughter. Learning about the world of pregnancy and birth quickly became an obsession! After hearing a few of my friends’ birth stories and how they felt unheard, out of control, and unprepared; I realized that feeling supported during birth was not the norm in America’s maternal health care system. I knew that I didn’t want that to happen to me, so my husband and I decided to hire a doula for my birth. She was so amazing and put the control back into my hands. We made my dream birth happen despite many obstacles.

After processing and reflecting on my birth and pregnancy experience, I had a strong desire to give this same peace and contentment to other moms. I want to be an advocate, supporter, and educator for families as they strive for an amazing birth experience. So I took the leap to get my birth doula certification and train under Heidi in the beginning of 2023! My goal is for parents to embark on their pregnancy and birth feeling empowered, equipped, and confident in their birth choices, no matter how they choose to birth.

Hey, I’m Elly!

Wife, Mother, IVF Warrior, Registered Nurse, Prenatal Educator, and Back-up Doula for the Bloc Team.

During my second pregnancy in 2021, I made it my mission to help families gain the knowledge and support they deserved to make truly informed decisions for themselves when it came to pregnancy and birth. I took a leap of faith, completed my doula training, and began working as a prenatal educator, birth and postpartum doula. As an RN, seeking the most up to date, evidence-based information comes somewhat naturally to me. However, when it comes to pregnancy, labor and birth, there is A LOT of information out there! My goal is for all of our clients to walk away feeling fully informed, supported, and empowered to take charge of their labor and birth, achieve the experience they desire, and enter into postpartum with confidence.
