3 Reasons to take our Childbirth Education Classes in Kansas City
We recently launched our eight-part, childbirth education series for families in Kansas City, and we are so excited about these affordable, comprehensive classes. After working as a doula in the Kansas City community for five years, I noticed most of my clients were not leaving the hospital birth classes with well-rounded education about all their birth options. They mostly learned about hospital policies and protocols; and not a lot about what to expect during the different stages of labor, the tools to explore how they want to cope with the pain, and advocacy skills for when they don’t feel like their voice is being heard. This gap wasn’t only evident in families wanting low-intervention births. We had many discussions with clients who were having a planned c-section or induction who barely knew anything about the process of these procedures, and the coping measures they could use during them.
That’s why we created out eight-part childbirth education series! This series is designed to help you and your partner get a comprehensive education around the choices during your delivery, feel prepared, and know how to communicate with medical staff to get the best care possible.
Here are three reasons we think you and your family need to sign up for these classes if you’re expecting a baby!
Priced per class, you can attend all or just the ones you want or need to. For first-time parents who want to feel prepared for all the different things birth might throw at you, take the full series! If you feel like you’ve already learned a lot about certain topics but want to expand your knowledge on others, then feel free to pick and choose what classes you’d like to take. If you’re a veteran parent who wishes they knew more about coping techniques to prolong that epidural, or maybe you had a vaginal birth before and know this pregnancy is going to be a planned c-section birth… pick the classes you need to feel ready and prepared for welcoming this new baby into your family. We never want getting birth education to feel like you’re breaking the bank, which is why we are priced at $45 per class.
Our classes are community-based. Classes are taught by doulas who have been practicing in the Kansas City community for years! We know the ins and out of the different providers in the area, which hospitals have what resources and can help guide you accordingly so you feel informed no matter where or how you birth. We noticed that lots of our clients who are taking online childbirth education classes thought that different options would be available at their hospital that aren’t provided in the KC Metro or were worried about outdated policies that we know most providers in Kansas City aren’t practicing. We can give you hyper-local education on what you need to know as an expecting parent in the Kansas City area, and if we don’t know the answer, we’ll point you to someone who does!
Build up a support system! You can meet other families having babies at the same time as you and stay in contact by joining our postpartum support circles after your baby is here. We keep our classes small and intimate, so you feel comfortable with the people around you and can ask questions to get individualized advice. Our goal during the classes is to get to know you and your partner and your birth preferences and be able to help answer any questions you have. You don’t need to be working with us for doula care (or you could be working with a different doula!) to access our classes, and we are always happy to give you our experienced advice when it’s needed.
